Jon's never explored sex, nor had the desire to do so. Maybe he's tried some more "vanilla" acts (handjobs, blowjobs, straightforward PIV/anal sex) because his partner was interested, but didn't really see the appeal. Jon compels Martin to disclose his sexual fantasies, but it’s the wretched version that doesn’t end in porn! Would greatly prefer this to be accidental in the sense that Jon did not expect this to be what his question drew out of Martin. It’s up to you whether he’s compelling him on purpose, though.

Martin has always kept mum about his sexuality, since he thinks Jon would find it... unpleasant. He is correct: Jon does.

Of course, Jon gets that Beholding buzz, but he’s horrified and repulsed by getting a look at this side of Martin. Martin is humiliated, violated, and even more guilty than he already was for his powerful attraction to Jon. Jon feels terrible for having done this to Martin, but also feels violated, because he didn’t want to know any of this.

“I’ve got the fireplace going,” Martin said.

Jon smiled as he added the milk and sugar to their tea, almost certain he’d made it right this time. “Almost ready.”

“Can I…?” Martin’s hands opened and closed as he barely restrained himself from reaching out and taking over. “Sorry, I’ll just… I’ll wait. By the fire.”

It was adorable, Jon thought to himself as he watched Martin leave before arranging the tea tray and putting the milk backing the fridge. Martin had shed the influence of The Lonely layer by layer, painstakingly over the past few weeks, and it was a delight to see him starting to take charge again. Soon enough, he’d be muscling Jon out of the kitchen and telling him to go find something else to while Martin took care of him. But, until then, Jon got to take care of Martin.

It had been touch and go, at first. Martin had faded more than a few times, when Jon got distracted and stopped talking to him or touching him. It had taken some coaxing for Jon to get Martin to admit what he needed, the constant touches and gentle kisses that grounded him. The relief that washed over both of them when they realized that Jon’s hand under Martin’s shirt, over his heart, was enough to pull him back from his cold dreams of isolation. Jon could still remember the joy he felt the first time he’d woken up to Martin’s erection poking into his thigh. Jon sighed and drank his own tea. He could taste it, now that Martin had pointed it out. “Alright. I’ll shave off fifteen seconds next time.”

Martin smiled kissed his neck and Jon felt safe and happy. “Hmm… Martin? Remember what we talked about last night? About my… hands?”

“Oh, god, Jon!” Martin laughed. “No, that was just… Look, you have gorgeous hands and I was in a weird mood. It’s absolutely fine that you don’t want to… to, you know…”

The best thing to do was leave, probably. He hesitated at the loud gasping sob from Martin as he turned away, but there was nothing he could do here except make things worse. He went to the bedroom and closed the door. Then he pulled the desk over and barricaded it. Then he went to sleep.

He didn’t sleep well. He assumed Martin hadn’t either.

In the light of day, Jon considered what to do next. He wasn’t going to… obviously he couldn’t… He remembered waking up to the sensation of Martin pressed against his back, one of Martin’s hands resting just above his knee and feeling safe and warm and loved. He remembered closing his eyes tightly enough to create a roaring sound in his ears so he couldn’t hear Martin panting as he jerked himself off in Jon’s embrace, careful, Jon had thought, not to touch Jon in any way. “You’re sorry?” Martin said, and finally turned around. His face was still blotchy from crying, and it looked like he hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep. “I said all those horrible things…”

Ah, good. So they were both willing to take the blame and move past this. “It’s fine. It… it’s normal, right? To, to want someone like that.” As if their thoughts and feelings didn’t matter.

“I guess? I know you don’t want me like that, I mean…” Martin stood up and gestured at himself. “I know no one would, I get that. It’s fine. And I would never, I mean, I think about it, yeah, but I’d never actually…”

“Right,” Jon said. He knew that. He did. “Right, so… so nothing’s changed, really.”

“Yeah,” Martin said. “Nothing’s changed.”

Jon slept on the couch that night, alternating with Martin. It was only fair. He nearly jumped out of his skin the first time Martin touched his shoulder to get his attention. Over dinner one night, Martin tentatively suggested that maybe, if he let The Lonely back in, just a little, he could go back to not wanting Jon again. The fight they had that night very nearly had Jon looking into returning to London.

They settled into a sort of truce. They didn’t touch and spoke as little as possible. Martin still went to town to shop and Jon still cooked, but they rarely ate meals together.

Then Jon read a statement from Jonah Magnus, one that ended the world, one that forced Jon to end the world. One that said, blatantly, that the only reason Jon could end the world was because he’d gone into The Lonely after Martin.

They travelled to London, attempting to fix this, and all Jon felt whenever he looked at Martin was deep, bitter, regret.

He will want to see it when the Archivist’s crimson fate arrives.'), Martin probably cancelled the contract on his old phone when he got a new one. But what if the archive staff had tried to communicate with Jane instead, to try to gain even a slight hint about where she was and what she was planning, in the early days before they'd even read her statement? Broadly speaking there are quite a few ways you could run with this, if it's a 'what if' that catches the imagination:

- The attack comes as quickly as canon, or sooner, with all the more opportunities for threats, misinformation, failed location tracking attempts etc. Maybe Martin texts questions like 'why did you let me go?' and 'what do you want?' and gets only the malice he expected in return, without Jane letting slip anything useful. Maybe Jane texts back with verbal taunting, or pictures of other victims (dead or alive), or nudes of her worm-infested flesh. Or she finds nudes Martin had taken of himself at some point, and sends them to Jon and the others, leading to some uncomfortable conversations about whether they should cancel that contract and block that number after all. Maybe she even sends nasty texts to Elias, or Martin's mum, which he'd find hard to handle in season 1.

- Jane bides her time with the worm-circle in the tunnels that she was using to start her ritual, which would've taken years to develop, and doesn't rush into attacking the basement archives in the meantime. Maybe she shares the Distortion's niche as a malevolent source of hints about the Eye, and the archives staff don't really have a way of getting rid of her, so they just take whatever cryptic info they can get. Maybe she hangs around long enough to attack different characters at different times - the staff's allies or enemies? Maybe she finds Gertrude's body and sends a photo along with some happy emojis? Maybe as Jon questions his own humanity and eventually starts comparing himself to her, he texts her instead of just staring at her remains in the jar/tunnels and wondering what had gone through her mind? (Artistic liberties could be taken for Jane to be capable of holding a conversation beyond 'lol i want to kill you all'... it's striking that she couldn't seem to remember her own life very clearly even before she stuck her hand in the wasps' nest.)

I know how this fandom usually likes to portray Annabelle, but consider: Annabelle, having been spider'd relatively young, doesn't actually have any sexual experience at all; having half her skull caved in hasn't really been conducive to finding partners. It'd be fun to see a pokemon au (with lighter worldbuilding than tma canon) where jon/martin/tim/sasha are close friends with benefits (and/or dating each other) who sometimes offer each other sexual favours as the prize for pokemon battles. Either they hold matches whenever any 2 of them feel like it, or hold tournaments as a group? With enough communication that nobody's going to be pushed into anything they've vetoed, but while they're competing they get a kick out of leaning into 'the winner gets to do whatever they like with the loser' banter. Either Jon's some shade of sex-favourable or -neutral ace, or he only asks & gets asked for nonsexual kink if he's sex-repulsed.

What about something that sticks with canon as far as late s3 - Tim saw a monster wearing Danny's skin, and years later found out that Sasha had died and been replaced by a monster months ago and he hadn't even noticed, so he admits that Jon's the only one he can trust to still be who he says he is, because Beholding's turning him into a different sort of monster and wouldn't let him get replaced.

Then it diverges: one of others gets close to Tim and manages to win his trust too, probably Melanie or Martin? He lets his guard down, starts sleeping with them and talking about his worries and plans. Then Jon finds out that the not!them escaped the tunnels and replaced Tim's new bff, proving it with tapes/polaroids/compulsion. How thoroughly would that break Tim? His trauma and anger and distrust all kicked up to another level by the revelation that someone he loves has been killed and replaced again, when he was already wary.

+ Tim lashes out at Jon for being the one to figure it out again. Because Jon's a monster, right? And Jon's still the only one he can believe is really who he says he is, not a malevolent imposter, which makes it safe to take it all out on him.

+ If Melanie's replaced, Georgie's the only one able to remember her and provide a description. If Martin's replaced, Jon's heartbroken too.

+ The not!them menaces them after they find out. Maybe they run to Daisy, or it could end any other way.

At uni, Jon got into a relationship with a twice-divorced older guy for reasons, and it turned sour. Maybe he wanted to experiment with sex and kinks and it was too awkward with his friends/peers due to the lack of attraction so he picked someone who wouldn't judge him, maybe he was broke because Oxford's expensive and it was a sugar daddy thing, maybe he was trying to network ready for graduation and got drawn in on an emotional level - but it was some degree of toxic and abusive, either from the start or at least by the end, and he was relieved when he managed to cut all ties.

Then Jon meets another Mr Blackwood at the Institute, and figures out from the shared surname and close resemblance that Martin is his ex's son. It's enough to make Jon super uncomfortable and wary, and of course he doesn't want anyone to find out... making it complicated when they need to deal with feelings. And talking. Of some sort.

Could be something that doesn't technically contradict canon, where Jon warms up to Martin once he starts seeing him as his own person, and Martin's hit hard by the whole 'everyone I love sees my Dad when they look at me and hates me for it' situation until they get past it? Or it could go a different direction, where Jon notices Martin before they're transferred to the same department, and things are even rockier between them than in canon, whether they end up together or not. Maybe Martin tries to balance 'I want to help Jon talk through his insecurities' vs 'I don't want to hear about my Dad' vs 'I kinda do want to hear more about my Dad, except the sex stuff'.

Bonuses: Tim teases about something uncomfortable without knowing the history, Sasha digs up dirt and has an 'oops' moment, and/or Jon and Martin ask them for advice.

Jon normally doesn't do sex/kink/etc. But he's decided to give something a shot with Martin--maybe sex, maybe something kinky without direct sexual contact. Jon is in the more dominant position in what they are trying.

The problem is that Martin is, despite being into it, more nervous about it than Jon. He's certain Jon is going to regret this, even if Jon suggested it. So every other minute Martin insecurely babbles out something like "Are you sure? You don't have to do anything you don't want to!
